A warm and friendly lunch club catering for people aged 60 years and over. Transport can be provided for those who are housebound or have dementia and who live within a 1 mile radius of the church. Referral by health professional or social services.

St Timothy’s Social Club

Tuesday Social Club is a Church based organisation for isolated and vulnerable individuals. The Club is an inclusive group and welcomes anyone from aged 18 to 80. The Tuesday Social Club provides support to men and women who are socially isolated through long-term unemployment, mental health problems and learning or physical disabilities.In addition to a programme of recreational and educational activities, the aim of the club is to provide a place to belong, friendship, emotional support, and something to do to overcome the chronic isolation that service users have experienced.
The Club provides a nutritious meal, activities, companionship and support. On Tuesdays a substantial two-course lunch as well as refreshments are provided in the community hall. Activities available include snooker (full size table), crafts, Internet and PC access/training, photography, table football, draughts, darts and table tennis.The club also meets on a Thursday where activities take place in the smaller pre-fab building adjacent to the hall. There is a lounge area where members enjoy each other’s company and can play games or snooker. A light snack lunch and refreshments are provided. Members participate in activities, such as cookery, card making and competitions and quizzes, which builds confidence.Lunch costs 50p. A free 1st visit is available for any new person accompanied by a a current club member.

Christ Church Fulwood Friday Club

The Lunch Club at Christ Church Fulwood which welcomes senior citizens in Fulwood Parish and beyond to come for the day and enjoy company, games and a midday meal. No waiting list. Transport is not provided.

St Columbas Community Lunch Club

Lunch club at St Columba’s Church offers support and friendship, especially for single people, older people and the bereaved living in Crosspool. Number of people limited to 30. Transport is only available on alternate Tuesdays.

When – Lunch club held at St Columba’s Church Hall, S10 Tuesday 12.30-2pm (term-time only).

Care in Crosspool

Volunteers from St Columbas Church (all volunteers are CRB checked and carry an ID card) who offer services including:

• Visiting the elderly and housebound for a chat or to make a drink
• Sitting with someone to give their carer a break
• Collecting prescriptions
• Taking elderly or less mobile people to an appointment by car
• Occasionally they are able to help with shopping

Wesley Hall Lunch Club

Wesley Hall Lunch Club is a large lunch club with over 40 people attending a typical session. Provides a hot meal which is cooked on the premises by chefs. Also offers gentle chairobics exercise after lunch.

St Luke’s Church Lodgemoor

Lunch Club for over 60s, transport provided, on alternate Mondays.
• Women’s Fellowship: an afternoon of Christian fellowship, usually with a guest speaker, on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 2.15pm in homes in the area.
• Men’s (and Ladies’) Coffee Mornings: fortnightly fellowship on alternate Thursday mornings, at 10am at St Luke’s.
• Reading Group: every couple of months or so in the evening.
• Thursday Tea Parties for the Over 60s: alternate Thursdays for hot drinks, cakes, entertainment and chat in the Community room at 53 Westminster Crescent.
• Seeds of Hope: a safe place where those who have been bereaved can meet together for a chat over tea & cakes and enjoy the friendship of others who understand. The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month in the Upper Room of St Luke’s Church Centre. Come for the whole time, or just drop in between 2:30 and 4:00pm.

Sheffield University of The Third Age

University of the Third Age is a worldwide organisation open to all people who are not in gainful employment and in which they can develop together their experience and skills, share them and seek out new interests. The object is learning and recreation for their own sakes, with no degrees or awards and no qualifications for entry.

Areas covered include:
• arts and crafts
• bird watching
• card and board games
• discussion, philosophy and religion
• gardening
• history, including local and family history
• languages, including French, German, Italian, Latin, Modern & Ancient Greek, Portuguese and Spanish
• literature and drama, including drama, novel, play and poetry reading, book groups and writing groups
• music, including opera, music appreciation and singing
• physical activities, including Arabic dancing, bowling, country dancing, croquet, keep fit, table tennis and tai chi

Door 2 Door Services

If you find it difficult to use standard public transport, Door 2 Door Services may be able to help. Door 2 Door services are operated using fully accessible vehicles. They can take you directly from your home and around the local area you live in, making your travel experience as easy as possible.

Where do I start?

Before using a Door 2 Door service, you will need to register with your local provider. You can do this by contacting them and filling out a simple form, which they will help you to complete. Registration is free. Your local providers are:

Shopper bus

Shopper Bus is the best service for you if you want to travel to a supermarket, or local town or city centre. Shopper Bus picks you up from home and goes to set destinations at set times, charging a flat return fare of £2.00. Dial-a-ride

Dial-a-ride can take you from your home to anywhere within the district you live in, personalising your journey to your needs. Do however bear in mind that the service is subject to availability, as there is a large demand, so the more flexible you can be with the time you want to travel, the more likely it is that you will be able to make a booking.

Group Travel
